Equity Primary Research
We are currently representing a Hedge Fund who is looking to hire a Equity Primary Research Analyst into its centralized research platform, to focus on Commodities (energy, materials, and related supply chains). This role is part of the Fund's core research function and works closely with fundamental investment teams across equities and commodities.
The position is focused on qualitative, primary research rather than financial modelling, with an emphasis on deep industry channel checks, expert engagement, and real-time information validation to support investment thesis formation.
They operate a single-fund model, with centralized research resources aligned closely to the investment teams, offering broader exposure and longer-term development potential relative to pod-based structures.
Responsibilities:
- Conduct primary research and channel checks across relevant sectors and supply chains
- Engage directly with industry participants, suppliers, customers, competitors, consultants, and former executives
- Leverage and expand a network of industry experts to source differentiated, real-time insights
- Validate facts, test assumptions, and triangulate information to support investment theses
- Work closely with portfolio managers and analysts to frame key questions and research priorities
- Maintain structured records of findings and communicate insights clearly and concisely to investment teams.
Qualifications:
- 2-5 years of relevant experience in primary research, expert networks, channel checking, or investigative research
- Ideally currently performing a dedicated primary research role (e.g. similar centralized research functions at hedge funds or asset managers)
- Existing industry network or demonstrated ability to rapidly source the right experts and information
- Strong qualitative judgement, intellectual curiosity, and comfort with ambiguity
- Excellent communication skills; able to distil complex, fragmented information into actionable insights
- No expectation of financial modelling; the role is non-modelling and research-driven.
