About the Role
As a Data Research Engineer at this top-tier financial firm, you'll be at the forefront of transforming massive volumes of structured and unstructured data into actionable insights. Your work will directly support our Systematic Business by powering alpha-generating research through scalable, cloud-based data solutions.

You'll collaborate closely with Quantitative Researchers (QRs), business teams, and external data providers to identify, evaluate, and operationalize high-value datasets. This role is ideal for someone who thrives on solving complex data challenges and is passionate about driving business impact through data engineering.

What You'll Do

  • Own and manage multiple datasets with varying schemas and update frequencies.
  • Collaborate with researchers to deliver high-impact, research-ready data.
  • Design, build, and maintain robust, automated data pipelines.
  • Extract, clean, normalize, and transform raw data into usable formats.
  • Translate abstract research questions into scalable data workflows.
  • Handle edge cases and ensure data integrity through validation and alerting.
  • Optimize data schemas and queries for performance and scalability.
  • Build tools to streamline pipeline development and monitoring.
  • Enable data exploration and visualization through analytical infrastructure.
  • Contribute to cloud-based application development at scale.

What We're Looking For

Required:

  • Proven experience delivering business value through data engineering.
  • Ownership of end-to-end data projects or major components.
  • Strong attention to detail and analytical mindset.
  • Quick learner with a passion for new technologies.
  • Hands-on experience with ETL development.

Preferred:

  • Expertise in data manipulation, query optimization, and performance tuning.
  • Familiarity with time series forecasting and machine learning.
  • Strong coding skills in Python, SQL, and experience with cloud platforms, containers, CI/CD, and software packaging.
  • Experience with DBT and modern data stack tools.
  • Excellent communication skills for working with researchers and external partners.
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Mathematics, Engineering, or a related field.
