A highly respected, employee-owned investment management firm is seeking a Controller to lead day-to-day accounting operations and support the ongoing financial management of the organization. Reporting directly to the CFO, the Controller will oversee financial reporting, accounting operations, internal controls, budgeting support, and staff development while helping drive the continued growth and success of the organization.
Responsibilities
- Lead all accounting operations, including general ledger management and month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close processes.
- Oversee accounts payable, payroll, and accounting staff while supporting training and development initiatives.
- Manage quarterly client billing processes and collaborate with operations teams to ensure accuracy and efficiency.
- Prepare annual audited financial statements and quarterly internal financial reporting packages.
- Review and approve journal entries, accruals, reconciliations, and other closing activities.
- Develop, document, and enhance accounting policies, procedures, and internal controls.
- Coordinate annual audit and tax support requests with external providers.
- Prepare quarterly Board of Directors reporting materials and presentations.
- Partner with executive leadership on budgeting, forecasting, and financial planning activities.
- Perform accounting research and ensure compliance with GAAP and applicable regulations.
- Provide financial analysis to support strategic initiatives, capital investments, pricing decisions, and contract negotiations.
- Develop ad hoc financial reporting and analysis for senior leadership as needed.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, or a related field.
- 4+ years of progressive accounting or finance experience.
- Strong experience preparing and analyzing financial statements.
- Advanced analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
- Advanced Excel and financial reporting skills.
- Experience with international accounting and foreign currency transactions.
- Background within public accounting, investment management, asset management, or financial services environments preferred.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Self-motivated with the ability to work independently and take ownership of key initiatives.
Preferred Qualifications
- CPA designation.
- Experience calculating investment management or asset management fees.
- Experience with NetSuite, Spreadsheet Server, Concur Expense, and corporate banking platforms.
- Prior experience within an investment management or asset management organization.
