Voluntary Benefits Account Manager - Insurance Brokerage
Overview
Our client is seeking a highly organized and client‑focused Voluntary Benefits Account Manager to support the delivery, service, and renewal of supplemental insurance programs. This role plays a key part in managing employer clients and ensuring a seamless experience across all aspects of voluntary benefits-including accident, critical illness, hospital indemnity, disability, life, and other employee‑paid programs. The ideal candidate has strong communication skills, excellent attention to detail, and experience working with carriers, enrollment firms, and internal consulting teams.
Key Responsibilities
Client Service & Relationship Management
- Serve as the primary day‑to‑day contact for employer groups regarding voluntary benefits.
- Respond to client inquiries, resolve issues, and provide timely guidance on plan options, eligibility, enrollment, and billing.
- Build strong relationships with HR teams, payroll administrators, and carrier partners.
- Assist in onboarding new clients and ensuring a smooth handoff between sales and service teams.
Renewals & Plan Administration
- Support annual renewal strategies by gathering census data, reviewing carrier proposals, and preparing client‑ready materials.
- Coordinate plan updates, rate changes, and product adjustments with carriers and internal teams.
- Track renewal deadlines and ensure timely execution of all required documents.
- Maintain accurate records of plan information, coverage tiers, rates, and client histories.
Enrollment Coordination
- Partner with carriers and enrollment vendors to manage open enrollment logistics.
- Assist clients with pre‑enrollment communication, materials distribution, and employee education efforts.
- Monitor enrollment progress and address issues related to eligibility, submissions, or data discrepancies.
Carrier & Vendor Management
- Coordinate with voluntary benefits carriers to resolve claim issues, billing discrepancies, and service escalations.
- Review and reconcile carrier invoices; support clients with billing questions and corrections.
- Maintain a strong understanding of carrier product offerings, underwriting guidelines, and administrative processes.
Compliance & Documentation
- Ensure all voluntary benefit plans comply with applicable regulations and carrier requirements.
- Prepare documentation such as benefit summaries, plan comparisons, and onboarding materials.
- Maintain updated client files, SOPs, and workflow documentation in agency management systems.
Internal Collaboration
- Work closely with producers, account executives, analysts, and marketing teams to ensure cohesive client service.
- Participate in internal meetings, workflow improvements, and client strategy sessions.
- Support sales teams during finalist presentations or prospective client discussions, as needed.
Required Qualifications
- 2-5+ years of experience in employee benefits or voluntary benefits; brokerage or carrier experience strongly preferred.
- Knowledge of voluntary benefits products (accident, CI, HI, disability, life, etc.).
- Strong client service skills and ability to manage multiple competing priorities.
- Proficiency in Excel, benefits administration systems, and agency management platforms.
- Excellent written and verbal communication abilities.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience working with enrollment firms or benefits technology platforms.
- Understanding of underwriting, rating, and implementation processes for voluntary benefits.
- State Life & Health insurance license (or the ability to obtain one within a set timeframe).
- Familiarity with payroll file feeds, EDI processes, or eligibility administration.
