Job Title: PBM Account Manager
Position Summary
The PBM Account Manager is responsible for managing and growing client relationships related to pharmacy benefit programs. This role serves as the primary point of contact for clients, ensuring high-quality service delivery, strategic alignment, and optimization of pharmacy spend through collaboration with PBMs, internal teams, and external vendors. The ideal candidate brings deep knowledge of pharmacy benefits, strong analytical capabilities, and a consultative client management approach.
Key Responsibilities
Client Relationship Management
- Serve as the primary day-to-day contact for assigned clients on all pharmacy benefit-related matters
- Build and maintain strong client relationships, ensuring high client satisfaction and retention
- Lead regular client meetings, including performance reviews, strategy sessions, and renewal discussions
- Translate complex PBM data and market trends into clear, actionable insights for clients
PBM Strategy & Oversight
- Manage PBM vendor relationships, including performance monitoring and issue resolution
- Ensure contractual compliance, including guarantees, rebates, and pricing terms
- Support PBM procurement processes, including RFPs, market checks, and contract negotiations
- Identify opportunities to improve clinical programs, cost management, and member experience
Financial & Data Analysis
- Analyze pharmacy spend, utilization trends, and rebate performance
- Develop and deliver financial reports, projections, and savings opportunities
- Monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) and contractual guarantees
- Provide strategic recommendations to optimize pharmacy benefit design and cost containment
Implementation & Ongoing Support
- Oversee implementation of new PBM programs, plan design changes, or vendor transitions
- Coordinate with internal teams (consulting, analytics, clinical) to deliver comprehensive solutions
- Ensure timely resolution of client issues, billing discrepancies, and operational concerns
Market Expertise
- Stay current on PBM industry trends, regulatory updates, and emerging solutions
- Advise clients on innovative pharmacy strategies (e.g., specialty drug management, biosimilars, alternative funding programs)
- Benchmark client programs against industry standards and best practices
Qualifications
Required
- Bachelor's degree in business, healthcare administration, or related field
- 5-10+ years of experience in PBM, pharmacy benefits consulting, or managed care
- Strong understanding of PBM pricing models (spread, pass-through, rebates, etc.)
- Excellent client management, communication, and presentation skills
- Proven ability to analyze financial and utilization data
Preferred
- Experience working at a PBM, consulting firm, or health plan
- Knowledge of specialty pharmacy and clinical programs
- Experience with PBM RFPs and contract negotiation
- Advanced Excel and data analytics skills
