We are seeking an experienced Reference Data Analyst to support the maintenance, quality, and governance of critical financial data used across investment, risk, operational, and reporting functions. This individual will play a key role in ensuring the accuracy, consistency, and integrity of security master and related reference data across a complex global environment.
The successful candidate will work closely with stakeholders across investment teams, operations, finance, technology, compliance, and risk management. This role requires strong attention to detail, an analytical mindset, and the ability to balance day-to-day operational responsibilities while contributing to process improvements, automation initiatives, and data quality enhancements.
The ideal candidate will have experience managing reference and security master data within a financial services organization, along with a proven ability to investigate data issues, partner with business users, collaborate with vendors, and support technology-driven improvements.
Position Overview
As a Senior Reference Data Analyst, you will be responsible for maintaining and enhancing the quality of reference data that supports investment, operational, and risk-related processes. Responsibilities include creating, validating, enriching, and reconciling security master records, researching data discrepancies, and ensuring accurate data is available across downstream systems.
You will gain exposure to a wide range of financial instruments and master data domains while working alongside operational and technology teams to improve controls, streamline workflows, and support business initiatives.
Key Responsibilities
- Maintain accurate and timely reference data across multiple business functions.
- Create, validate, and maintain security master records across a broad range of asset classes.
- Support data quality initiatives through reconciliations, exception management, and validation processes.
- Research and resolve data issues affecting downstream systems, reporting, and operational workflows.
- Analyze the impact of corporate actions and security-level changes on positions and data records.
- Support business users by investigating and responding to data-related inquiries.
- Work with external market data and reference data vendors to resolve discrepancies and improve data quality.
- Maintain organizational reference data, including account, counterparty, and entity-related information.
- Partner with technology teams to enhance operational processes and implement automation solutions.
- Document procedures, controls, and workflows to support consistency and scalability.
- Participate in process improvement initiatives designed to strengthen data governance and operational efficiency.
- Collaborate with global stakeholders across investment, operations, finance, compliance, risk, and technology teams.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Finance, Economics, Business, Information Systems, or a related discipline.
- 5+ years of experience in reference data, securities operations, market data operations, or related financial services functions.
- Hands-on experience maintaining and managing security master data within a financial institution.
- Experience supporting multiple asset classes, including equities, fixed income products, derivatives, and listed instruments.
- Experience maintaining organizational and entity-related reference data.
- Strong background in data reconciliation, exception management, and issue resolution.
- Experience working with ticketing or workflow management tools such as JIRA or similar platforms.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities.
- Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to manage competing priorities in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong communication skills and experience working with cross-functional stakeholders.
- Demonstrated ability to identify opportunities for process improvements and operational efficiencies.
Preferred Technical Skills
- Advanced Microsoft Excel skills, including Pivot Tables, lookups, filtering, and data analysis functions.
- Working knowledge of SQL for querying and analyzing financial datasets.
- Experience using Bloomberg Terminal and other financial data platforms.
- Familiarity with reference data governance, data quality controls, and data lineage concepts.
- Exposure to workflow automation, AI-enabled tools, or process optimization technologies is a plus.
