Selby Jennings is parterning with a global leading energy trading firm that is looking for a outstanding market risk leader to lead strategic risk oversight across refined products, crude oil, and related derivative trading activity across North American & LATAM markets. In this seat, you will serve as the senior regional authority on risk, providing strong oversight, delivering high‑quality reporting, constructively challenging the trading teams, and ensuring close alignment with global risk standards and frameworks.
Responsibilities:
Provide regional oversight of risk management activities for physical energy portfolios, including pipeline movements, ground transport, and marine logistics.
Ensure that enterprise‑wide risk standards, controls, and limit frameworks are consistently implemented across regional support functions such as Back Office, Product Control, and Market Risk.
Serve as the primary escalation contact for significant risk events, breaches of limits, and material exposure concerns.
Guide, support, and develop the regional risk organization through strong leadership and mentorship.
Build trusted partnerships with senior commercial leaders, regional executives, and global risk stakeholders to enable balanced decision‑making.
Offer independent, thoughtful challenge on trading approaches, emerging business proposals, and complex commercial structures.
Represent the risk function in regional leadership meetings, governance forums, and cross‑functional committees.
Oversee the accuracy, timeliness, and clarity of daily financial results, risk metrics, and exposure reporting for front‑line and senior stakeholders, ensuring all movements are well‑understood.
Maintain full transparency and precision in valuation processes across physical and derivative positions.
Ensure that regional use of trade and risk systems accurately reflects commercial activity and adheres to internal data standards.
Collaborate closely with Operations and Trade Finance to confirm accurate and timely booking of logistics details, cost accruals, and quantity updates.
Strengthen end‑of‑month reconciliation workflows between the Risk and Accounting teams to ensure complete alignment.
Contribute to the continuous improvement and documentation of risk governance frameworks and procedural controls.
Manage key external relationships related to regional clearing, brokerage, and market infrastructure partners.
Uphold rigorous oversight of market data inputs, price verification processes, and related governance practices.
Requirements/Qualifications:
10+ years of risk management experience in physical energy markets, particularly involving refined products and crude‑related commercial activity.
Proficiency with advanced trading and risk platforms.
A bachelor's degree in a business, finance, economics, or related field of study; professional certifications or postgraduate studies such as CFA, MBA, or equivalent credentials are advantageous.
Broad understanding of front‑to‑back trade lifecycle functions, including commercial operations, risk oversight, and supporting control environments.
Strong analytical capability with the ability to interpret market movements, assess how valuation shifts influence financial results, and understand the economic drivers behind transactional events.
