They are seeking a Senior Underwriter to join their Utah underwriting team, handling complex commercial accounts and playing a key role in portfolio management and broker engagement.
Role Overview
The Senior Underwriter will be responsible for underwriting and managing a book of commercial business, with authority to evaluate risk, structure terms, and drive profitable growth. This role sits at the intersection of technical underwriting, broker relationship management, and internal collaboration.
Key Responsibilities
Underwriting & Risk Analysis
- Underwrite new and renewal commercial lines business in accordance with appetite and underwriting guidelines
- Evaluate complex risks, including large accounts and unique exposures
- Analyze financials, loss history, and risk characteristics to determine appropriate pricing and terms
- Exercise sound underwriting judgment to balance growth with profitability
Portfolio Management
- Actively manage assigned book of business to achieve premium, retention, and loss ratio targets
- Monitor portfolio performance and identify trends or emerging risks
- Support underwriting strategy through disciplined risk selection
Broker & Relationship Management
- Build and maintain strong relationships with agency and broker partners
- Provide underwriting insight, solutions, and responsiveness to support distribution partners
- Represent the company in agency meetings and local market events
Collaboration & Leadership
- Partner closely with claims, loss control, and underwriting management
- Serve as a technical resource and mentor to junior underwriters as needed
- Participate in training, process improvement, and underwriting initiatives
Qualifications
- 5-10+ years of commercial lines underwriting experience
- Strong technical underwriting skills with experience handling complex risks
- Knowledge of Utah commercial insurance market preferred
- Ability to manage an underwriting desk with meaningful authority
- Excellent analytical, communication, and relationship‑management skills
- Professional designations (CPCU, AU, or similar) a plus
