Position Overview:
As a Vice President of E&O Professional and Financial Lines Underwriting, you will play a pivotal role in the growth and development of their portfolio within these key areas. You will assist in building and executing strategies to grow their Professional and Financial Lines (E&O, D&O, MPL, EPL, Fiduciary, and Crime) portfolio, with a focus on underwriting excellence, client relationship management, and ensuring that risk selection aligns with the firm's goals.
This role requires an in-depth understanding of the various lines of coverage, strong leadership and communication skills, and a proven track record of success in underwriting complex risks within the professional and financial lines sectors. You will work closely with other senior leaders in the organization to ensure the profitable growth and management of the portfolio.
Key Responsibilities:
Portfolio Management & Strategy:
Develop and execute a strategic plan for the growth of the E&O and financial lines portfolio, focusing on D&O, MPL, EPL, Fiduciary, and Crime coverages.
Monitor and evaluate portfolio performance, recommending adjustments to pricing, terms, and conditions where necessary to align with risk appetites and market conditions.
Drive initiatives to expand market presence and increase underwriting profitability.Underwriting & Risk Selection:
Lead and oversee the underwriting process for complex E&O and financial lines risks, including but not limited to Directors & Officers (D&O), Employment Practices Liability (EPL), Fiduciary, Crime, and Medical Professional Liability (MPL).
Collaborate with key stakeholders, brokers, and clients to identify emerging risks and develop innovative coverage solutions.
Assess the risks of new and renewal business, ensuring that risk selection aligns with corporate goals, appetites, and profitability targets.Leadership & Team Development:
Provide guidance and mentorship to a team of underwriters, fostering a collaborative and high-performance culture.
Support talent development by driving best practices and providing coaching and training on technical underwriting and market knowledge.
Play an active role in recruitment, training, and the development of underwriting talent.Client and Broker Relationships:
Build and maintain strong relationships with brokers, clients, and reinsurers to effectively grow the portfolio.
Represent the firm in client and broker meetings, helping to negotiate terms and conditions and provide value-added solutions.Compliance & Reporting:
Ensure all underwriting activities are compliant with the company's risk management policies, regulatory requirements, and legal standards.
Prepare and present regular portfolio performance reports to senior management, including updates on market conditions, risks, and opportunities.Market Intelligence:
Stay abreast of market trends, competitor actions, regulatory changes, and emerging risks in the professional and financial lines sector.
Use this market intelligence to refine underwriting strategies and ensure the firm remains competitive and profitable in these lines of business.
Qualifications:
Experience:
A minimum of 10 years of underwriting experience, specifically within E&O, D&O, MPL, EPL, Fiduciary, and Crime lines of business.
Proven success in underwriting complex professional and financial lines risks, with a deep understanding of both the technical and market aspects of these lines.
Prior experience in a senior leadership or management role is preferred.Education & Certifications:
Bachelor's degree in Business, Finance, Risk Management, or a related field (preferred).
Relevant industry certifications such as CPCU, ARM, or similar professional designations are advantageous.Skills:
Strong analytical, communication, and negotiation skills.
Ability to assess complex risks and make data-driven decisions.
Demonstrated ability to develop and implement strategic initiatives.
Leadership skills with the ability to manage and develop high-performing teams.
Strong relationship-building skills, with a track record of successfully working with brokers, clients, and internal teams.Knowledge:
Deep knowledge of the professional and financial lines market, including trends, regulatory changes, and emerging risks.
A solid understanding of reinsurance structures and concepts is a plus.
