Position Summary

The Vice President, Benefits Consulting is a senior leadership role responsible for driving strategic client relationships, delivering high-impact employee benefits consulting solutions, and leading consulting teams. This role partners with large and complex organizations to design, implement, and optimize health & welfare and retirement programs that align with business objectives, manage cost, and enhance employee experience.

The VP serves as a trusted advisor to executive stakeholders, while contributing to revenue growth, client retention, and the overall strategic direction of the practice.


Key Responsibilities

Client Leadership & Strategy

  • Serve as the primary relationship manager for a portfolio of large and/or complex clients (e.g., Fortune 1000, public sector, multi-employer, or nonprofit organizations)
  • Act as a strategic advisor to C-suite, HR, and finance leaders on benefits strategy, cost management, and program design
  • Lead development of multi-year benefits strategies, including health & welfare and/or retirement programs
  • Provide expertise on market trends, regulatory changes, and innovative solutions

Consulting & Solution Delivery

  • Oversee the design, implementation, and management of benefits programs, including:
    • Medical, dental, vision, life, disability
    • Retirement plans (401(k), DB plans, nonqualified plans)
  • Lead vendor strategy including RFPs, renewals, and performance management
  • Provide financial analysis and modeling related to cost projections, funding strategies, and plan performance
  • Guide clients on compliance matters (ACA, ERISA, HIPAA, etc.)

Business Development

  • Identify opportunities to expand services within existing accounts and drive organic revenue growth
  • Lead new business pursuits, including proposal development and finalist presentations
  • Build strong market presence and contribute to thought leadership initiatives

Team Leadership & Mentorship

  • Lead, mentor, and develop consultants and account teams
  • Ensure high-quality client deliverables and consistent service standards
  • Foster collaboration across actuarial, compliance, and brokerage teams

Operational & Financial Oversight

  • Manage account profitability and budgeting
  • Monitor and improve engagement margin and resource utilization
  • Support broader practice leadership in achieving strategic objectives

Qualifications

Experience

  • 10-15+ years of experience in employee benefits consulting or related field
  • Proven success managing large, complex client relationships
  • Track record of driving revenue growth and developing new business
  • Experience leading and mentoring consulting teams

Education & Credentials

  • Bachelor's degree required (business, finance, actuarial science, or related field)
  • Advanced degree (MBA, MHA) or professional designations (CEBS, FSA, ASA, etc.) preferred
  • Relevant insurance licenses required or ability to obtain
