Volatility Sub-Portfolio Manager
Volatility Sub-Portfolio Manager (Equity / Index Vol Preferred) -
Next-Gen PM Program - New York City.
A leading global multi-strategy hedge fund is expanding its Volatility Sub-Portfolio Manager (Sub-PM) Program in New York City. This is a dedicated platform designed to develop the next generation of senior Portfolio Managers, built around structured mentorship, risk governance, and hands-on guidance from experienced volatility PMs as you progress.
This opportunity is ideal for a volatility trader/PM who already has a live, monetized track record and is ready to scale within an institutional, multi-strat environment - with meaningful autonomy from day one.
The Program (What makes this different)
Unlike standard "seat" hires, this is a formal Sub-PM track with:
- Direct mentorship from seasoned volatility PMs
- A clear progression path tied to performance, process, and risk management
- A collaborative environment focused on developing repeatable edge, robust research habits, and institutional-quality trading
The Mandate
The team is flexible across volatility styles and products, but there is a preference for:
- Equity volatility (single-name, dispersion, relative value, event vol, index-derived themes)
- Index volatility (SPX/NDX/RUT style surfaces, term structure, skew, carry/roll frameworks)
If your expertise is in another volatility vertical (rates/FX/credit/commodities), the fund is still open - what matters most is demonstrable edge and a clean risk framework.
Day 1 Trading Opportunity
Successful candidates will receive a Day 1 book to trade (with established platform infrastructure and risk limits) and will be compensated via a PnL-linked performance payout, including a profit-share / PnL cut bonus structure.
What they're looking for
To be considered, you should have:
- Minimum 2 years of live PnL trading volatility in buy-side markets
- Proven ability to generate returns with disciplined risk management
- Strong understanding of options dynamics (Greeks, skew, term structure, vol-of-vol, correlation)
- A repeatable process: idea generation, sizing, hedging, drawdown control, and post-trade review
- The professionalism to operate inside a multi-strat framework (risk, transparency, governance)
Why this role
- Structured path to senior PM with real mentorship (not just oversight)
- Immediate seat / immediate risk via a Day 1 book
- Institutional platform support (execution, technology, risk, capital allocation)
- NYC-based with a team that is flexible on your specific vol "lane"
