Houston-based Commodity Trading Advisor (CTA) hedge fund that focuses on primarily discretionary strategies across energy markets. They specalize in trading futures and options with an emphasis on risk-managed, data-driven approaches within the commodities space.
Position Overview:
The firm is looking to bring on an experienced Portfolio Manager or Trader with a proven track record in hard commodities trading, particularly within energy markets such as natural gas, crude oil, refined products or related derivatives. This role will focus exclusively on futures and options trading, requring strong expertiese in risk management, market fundamentals, and derivatives strategy execution.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage and execute trading strategies across energy commodities futures and options markets (e.g., natural gas, crude oil, refined products)
- Develop and implement systematic and/or discretionary trading strategies
- Monitor market conditions, supply/demand dynamics, and macroeconomic drivers impacting commodity prices
- Conduct rigorous risk management, including position sizing, hedging strategies, and drawdown controls
- Analyze and interpret market data, pricing curves, and volatility surfaces
- Collaborate with internal teams on research, modeling, and infrastructure improvements
- Continuously refine strategies based on performance data and changing market conditions
- Maintain discipline in adhering to firm risk guidelines and trading mandates
Qualifications
- 5+ years of experience as a Trader or Portfolio Manager within commodities markets
- Demonstrated experience trading hard commodities, ideally energy products (natural gas, crude oil, refined products, etc.)
- Strong expertise in futures and options trading
- Proven track record of P&L generation and risk-adjusted returns
- Deep understanding of commodity market fundamentals, derivatives pricing, and volatility
- Strong analytical and quantitative skillset
- Experience working within a CTA, hedge fund, proprietary trading firm, or similar environment preferred
- Ability to operate independently while contributing to a collaborative team environment
- Bachelor's degree required; advanced degree or certifications (e.g., CFA) is a plus
