Data Center Technician
A leading global research-driven organization is seeking a Data Center Technician to join its Trading Infrastructure team. This team is responsible for the data centers, networks, and supporting systems that power both global low-latency environments and high-performance computing (HPC) clusters.
In this role, you'll work with cutting-edge server, network, and storage technologies, including high-density cabinets and liquid cooling systems. You'll also have the opportunity to take ownership of projects from start to finish.
Key Responsibilities
- Maintain data center infrastructure (power, cooling, hardware, cabling, tools/supplies) to ensure maximum service availability.
- Plan and gather requirements for new hardware installations (location, power, cooling, cabling).
- Install and configure infrastructure components (cabinets, power strips, structured cabling).
- Rack and cable data center hardware (servers, network equipment, storage devices).
- Troubleshoot and perform break-fix on hardware.
- Perform initial configuration of network devices and Linux servers (CLI commands, Zero-Touch Provisioning).
- Develop and maintain documentation.
- Interface with colocation providers and hardware vendors.
- Manage onsite contractors (task assignment, work validation).
- Handle shipping and receiving of equipment.
- Maintain inventory of serialized assets and consumables.
- Conduct capacity planning (space, cooling, power, cabling).
- Travel occasionally to other data centers or office locations.
- Perform additional duties as assigned.
Required Skills & Qualifications
- Minimum of 3 years of data center experience.
- Bachelor's degree preferred.
- Ability to meet physical requirements (e.g., working on ladders, lifting up to 50 lbs).
- Strong knowledge of cabling standards and media types.
- Deep understanding of data center infrastructure (electrical, cooling, mechanicals, safety).
- Experience with hardware repair (servers, network/storage devices).
- Familiarity with basic network designs and topologies.
- Experience configuring Cisco and Arista devices via CLI.
- Proficiency with Linux command line for troubleshooting and scripting.
- Programming experience (e.g., Python) is a plus.
- Excellent communication, time management, and organizational skills.
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, global team environment.
