Data Center Engineer
One of the world's leading hedge funds founded in the early 1990's, is looking to grow their Data Center Engineering team. They have been at the forefront of quantitative finance for over three decades. Their team of scientists, engineers, and finance professionals leverages massive amounts of data, cutting-edge computing resources, and a rigorous quantitative approach to create systems and strategies that consistently outperform in global financial markets.
They are seeking an experienced Data Center Engineer with a background in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering. The ideal candidate will have over 8 years of experience in critical facilities design and operations, particularly in data centers. This role offers a dynamic combination of hands-on operations, design responsibilities, and project management in a fast-paced environment. This is an onsite role, based in the greater Los Angelas, California area.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead or participate in the design of data center modifications, including new cooling systems, electrical distribution systems, and BMS changes.
- Perform and understand cooling and power calculations on single and 3-phase circuits.
- Extract and analyze data from BMS systems for diagnosis and troubleshooting.
- Interpret and work with engineering documents such as Single-Line Electrical Drawings, network architecture drawings, P&IDs, SOPs, and maintenance manuals.
- Operate and maintain data center infrastructure, including cooling, power, security systems, and building management systems.
- Plan and coordinate maintenance, including administration of CMMS.
- Develop Energy Control Procedures (ECP), perform Lockout Tagout (LOTO), and develop Standard Operating Procedures (SOP).
- Ensure compliance with MEP standards, safe work practices, Arc flash hazards (NFPA 70e), Lock-out Tag-out, and OSHA standards.
Required Skills and Experience:
- Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and diagnostic skills.
- Working knowledge of Electrical Power Distribution, UPS, Diesel Engine Emergency Power Plants, Direct Expansion and Centrifugal Refrigeration Systems, Evaporative Cooling Towers, Air Handling Units, Distributed Control Systems or BMS, Hydronic systems, Motor Controls, Chemical Water Treatment, and Fire Detection and Protection Systems.
Desirable Skills:
- Proficiency in high-level programming languages (e.g., Python).
- Experience with control system programming (e.g., BMS) and communication protocols (e.g., modbus, bacnet, snmp).
- Experience in developing maintenance programs (e.g., Condition Based Maintenance, Reliability Centered Maintenance).
