Associate Director, Accounting & Reporting
Selby Jennings is exclusively supporting one of the premier pure play dermatology firms in the world that is in search of an Associate Director of Accounting & Reporting. This is a key leadership role on their US Accounting team, reporting directly into the Head of US Accounting & Treasury. In this role, you will be responsible for overseeeing core financial accounting activities across Record to Report, Fixed Assets, Inventory, Source to Pay, and R&D accounting.
Responsibilities:
- Manage operational execution of monthly, quarterly, and annual reporting processes in alignment with the global accounting calendar and close schedule.
- Ensure timely and accurate financial statements reporting with focus on Balance Sheet accounts, including review of journal entries, reconciliations, and supporting documentation.
- Ensure the integrity, accuracy, and quality of all submitted financial data, in compliance with IFRS, the firm's accounting manual, and statutory requirements. Validate proper classification of financial reporting lines for both statutory and performance books.
- Serve as the technical accounting lead for the U.S. team. Research and apply IFRS guidance, prepare accounting memos, and ensure consistency with the accounting manual and corporate policies.
- Assist the Head of Accounting in conducting Balance Sheet reviews and performing analytical reviews of account variations to ensure the accuracy, completeness, and integrity of financial results.
- Leverage reporting tools and system data to identify discrepancies, investigate root causes, and validate appropriate accounting treatment across all relevant ledgers in accordance with IFRS and the accounting manual.
- Oversees accounting for R&D operations.
- Oversees fixed assets accounting, including Additions, WIP capitalization, depreciation, disposals, and impairment testing, etc.
- Oversees inventory activities, valuation, costing methodology, and reserve calculations and volume reporting .
- Partner with Global Business Services and the Procurement department to ensure timely and accurate vendor payments and to proactively identify and resolve processing issues.
- Contribute to working capital optimization by improving the accuracy and timing of both payables recognition and inventory accounting.
- Review transactions for both tax and financial reporting impact, ensuring consistency between IFRS, the accounting manual, and local statutory requirements. Validate the proper classification of financial reporting lines across statutory (legal) and performance books. Leverage reporting tools to identify discrepancies and confirm appropriate accounting treatment across all relevant ledgers.
- Support global/local finance projects, ERP enhancements, and accounting policy implementations that impact the U.S. operation.
- Support any additional ad hoc tasks or strategic initiatives as assigned by the Head of US Accounting, including special analyses, internal reviews, or cross-functional projects that require accounting expertise and coordination.
- Lead and mentor a team of 3-4 direct reports, fostering accountability, collaboration, and technical development within the U.S. Accounting Team and across global counterparts.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance (Master's preferred)
- Certified Public Accountant (CPA) required
- +10 years of progressive accounting experience, including technical accounting leadership, with a strong preference for candidates with Big 4, pharmaceutical, or large-scale manufacturing backgrounds
- Deep expertise in accounting principles under both IFRS and U.S. GAAP, with demonstrated ability to research, interpret, and apply complex technical guidance to real-world scenarios
- Experience with Global Business Services (GBS) or Shared Services operating models is a plus
- Strong ERP system knowledge (Oracle) and advanced Excel skills
- Analytical and detail-oriented, with a track record of delivering high-quality outcomes under pressure and tight deadlines
- Ability to lead change, drive process improvement initiatives, and propose creative solutions to complex financial and operational issues
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to collaborate across functions and influence in a multi-cultural, matrixed environment
