Transmission Analyst
My client is seeking a highly analytical and detail-oriented Congestion Trading Analyst to join their power trading team in Baltimore, Maryland. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in power market fundamentals and experience with congestion analysis across major U.S. ISOs. This role will focus on identifying and evaluating transmission congestion risks and opportunities to support trading strategies.
Key Responsibilities:
- Analyze power market fundamentals, including load forecasts, generation dispatch, transmission constraints, and outage schedules.
- Develop and maintain congestion models using tools such as PSS®E, PLEXOS, and PROMOD.
- Monitor and interpret market data from ISOs (e.g., PJM, MISO, ERCOT, SPP) to identify congestion trends and trading opportunities.
- Collaborate with traders to develop and refine congestion trading strategies.
- Automate data analysis and reporting processes using Python and other analytical tools.
- Prepare and present insights on congestion risks, market dynamics, and model outputs to internal stakeholders.
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Energy Systems, Economics, or a related field.
- 3-5 years of experience in power markets, with a focus on congestion analysis or trading.
- Proficiency in PSSE, PLEXOS, PROMOD, or Python.
- Strong understanding of U.S. ISO/RTO markets and transmission system operations.
- Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
- Experience working directly with congestion trading desks or in a market operations environment.
- Familiarity with database tools (e.g., SQL) and data visualization platforms.
