About the Role
In this position, you will oversee technical accounting matters, evaluate the implications of new transactions, maintain up‑to‑date accounting policies, and ensure compliance with current standards. You will collaborate with stakeholders across the company to interpret accounting guidance, contribute to disclosure development, and support key reporting initiatives.
What You'll Do
- Lead technical accounting activities under U.S. GAAP and statutory accounting frameworks, ensuring high‑quality conclusions and documentation.
- Collaborate with internal teams and external advisors to evaluate new transactions, business models, and contractual arrangements from an accounting perspective.
- Prepare comprehensive analyses of complex accounting issues and provide recommendations that align with regulatory requirements and industry best practices.
- Develop, update, and maintain accounting policies, ensuring they reflect both operational reality and current accounting standards.
- Monitor new and emerging accounting pronouncements and guide the organization through adoption and implementation.
- Support financial statement disclosures related to accounting policies, judgments, and new standards.
- Partner with audit teams to address technical accounting questions and support audit readiness.
- Build strong working relationships across departments to help operational teams understand accounting impacts and identify opportunities for process improvement.
- Conduct technical research and support special projects requiring advanced accounting expertise.
- Ensure compliance with all relevant regulations and internal governance requirements.
- Perform other responsibilities as needed in a fast‑moving environment.
What You Bring
- 6+ years of relevant accounting experience.
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field, or equivalent professional experience.
- CPA license required.
- Experience working with U.S.-based insurance companies.
- Prior involvement in financial reporting, including understanding of technical disclosures and regulatory expectations.
Preferred Qualifications
- Technical accounting experience within a health insurance or broader insurance environment.
- Experience contributing to large‑scale initiatives in partnership with multiple teams.
- Extensive background (4+ years) in insurance accounting or financial reporting.
- Public accounting experience, ideally 6+ years.
