Senior Actuarial Manager
Position Overview
Our client is looking for experienced actuarial leader to oversee pricing and reserving strategies for a dynamic property-focused insurance organization. This role combines traditional actuarial expertise with modern analytical approaches, driving innovation in pricing, automation, and data-driven decision-making. You'll lead a team of actuaries, collaborate across business units, and influence strategic decisions in complex, catastrophe-exposed markets.
Key Responsibilities
- Pricing Leadership: Develop and manage comprehensive pricing strategies across property portfolios to support profitability and growth objectives.
- Model Development: Build and maintain advanced pricing models using techniques such as GLMs, GAMs, and GBMs, ensuring robust governance and performance monitoring.
- Reserving Oversight: Direct reserving processes, including IBNR estimation, loss ratio analysis, and reserve adequacy reviews in partnership with finance teams.
- Tool Modernization: Enhance and maintain rating tools to deliver accurate, efficient pricing for underwriting and distribution partners.
- Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work closely with underwriting, product, finance, and reinsurance teams to translate analytics into actionable portfolio and strategy decisions.
- Team Development: Mentor and grow actuarial talent, fostering a high-performing team culture and building future leadership capacity.
- Process Optimization: Drive automation and efficiency improvements in pricing and reserving workflows.
- Executive Communication: Present complex actuarial and analytical insights in clear, business-oriented language to senior stakeholders.
Qualifications
Experience:
- 7+ years in P&C actuarial roles, with a strong focus on commercial lines; experience in CAT/E&S or specialty property is highly desirable.
- Proven leadership in pricing and/or reserving functions, including indications, profitability reviews, and reserve analyses.
- Hands-on experience developing and deploying predictive models (GLMs, GAMs, GBMs) and integrating them into production systems.
- Familiarity with rating tool enhancements and change management processes.
- Prior responsibility for reserve studies and collaboration with finance on planning and reviews.
- Minimum 2-3 years managing actuarial staff with demonstrated success in talent development.
- Background in fast-paced environments such as high-growth insurers, MGAs, or insurtech is a plus.
Education & Credentials:
- Bachelor's degree or higher in Actuarial Science, Mathematics, Statistics, Data Science, or related field.
- ACAS required; FCAS preferred or near completion.
Technical Skills:
- Advanced modeling capabilities using GLMs, GAMs, and GBMs.
- Proficiency in Python or R, with working knowledge of SQL and Excel.
- Experience with actuarial software (e.g., Emblem, Radar) is advantageous.
