Operational Risk Manager

A leading algorithmic trading firm is seeking an experienced Operational Risk Manager to strengthen their firm-wide risk management framework across European operations. This role will be responsible for driving robust control environments, ensuring compliance with IFR/IFD regulations, and partnering closely with key business functions to proactively identify, assess, and mitigate risks.

The successful candidate will play a critical role in shaping risk strategy, managing regulatory engagement, and ensuring the business operates within a well-governed and resilient framework.

Key Responsibilities

  • Control Framework Ownership

    • Own and continuously enhance the firm's Key Control Framework
    • Ensure effective testing, monitoring, and assurance of critical controls across the organization
  • Risk Assessment & Governance

    • Lead the annual Risk Survey, Culture Assessment, and Risk Control Self-Assessment (RCSA) processes
    • Drive consistent and proactive identification, evaluation, and mitigation of key risks
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration

    • Partner closely with Trading, Technology, Compliance, and other business functions
    • Ensure risk controls are effectively embedded within systems, processes, and daily operations
  • Business Continuity

    • Lead Business Continuity Planning (BCP) processes and testing across European offices
    • Enhance organizational resilience and preparedness for disruption scenarios
  • Prudential Risk Management

    • Lead ongoing IFR/IFD prudential risk management for Amsterdam and London entities
    • Own and manage the ICARA (Internal Capital Adequacy and Risk Assessment) process
    • Oversee Pillar 3 disclosures and regulatory prudential reporting requirements
  • Regulatory Engagement & Industry Participation

    • Represent the firm in IFR-related working groups (e.g., EPTA, APT)
    • Engage with regulators such as FCA and DNB on prudential risk topics

Skills & Experience

  • Professional Experience

    • Minimum 5+ years of experience in operational and/or prudential risk management within financial services or trading environments
    • Proven track record in interpreting and implementing prudential regulations (IFR/IFD experience strongly preferred)
  • Technical Expertise

    • Strong experience in ICARA processes, Pillar 3 disclosures, and prudential reporting is highly desirable
    • Demonstrated ability to design and implement Operational Risk frameworks, including RCSA and Key Control frameworks
    • Solid understanding of financial markets, trading operations, and associated risks
  • Core Competencies

    • Excellent analytical skills with high attention to detail, particularly when navigating complex regulatory requirements
    • Strong stakeholder management skills with the ability to influence and engage across all levels of the organization
    • Proven leadership capabilities, including mentoring and developing team members
  • Education

    • Degree in Finance, Risk Management, Economics, or a related discipline
  • Communication

    • Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English
