Role: Commercial Underwriting Consultant (Middle Market)
Salary Range: $115,000 - $175,000 annually
Position Type: Hybrid (2 days remote/3 days in office)
Description: Our client is looking for a Commercial Underwriting Consultant with extensive technical expertise to join their Corporate Underwriting Team. The ideal candidate will have significant experience in a specific line of business or industry segment within the commercial middle market space.
Responsibilities:
- Define and enforce risk appetite, risk selection, coverage analysis, underwriting guidelines, and underwriting authority for the designated line of business or industry segment.
- Ensure consistency in underwriting and pricing decisions and improve monitoring standards to evaluate underwriting results at the portfolio level.
- Oversee authority and referrals for the designated line of business or industry segment, offering subject matter expertise and support for complex referrals.
- Gather and utilize market intelligence to benchmark against peers and ensure a competitive position for agency customers.
- Partner with Product leadership to develop new product concepts and review coverage language.
- Support underwriting governance by participating in audits, monitoring exception thresholds, and collaborating with regional management on improvement plans.
Requirements:
- Six years of commercial lines underwriting experience.
- In-depth knowledge of underwriting processes, coverages, tools, and company products and services.
- Strong understanding of commercial insurance, underwriting, and risk control principles.
- Excellent communication, negotiation, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
- Advanced ability to analyze, define, and solve problems, using sound judgment and decision-making.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint).
Preferred Qualifications:
- Expertise in a specific line of business or industry segment.
- CPCU, CIC, or other advanced designations preferred.
Location Preferences: The preferred location for this role is the Sarasota office, but candidates in Lake Mary, FL, Lawrenceville, GA, or Richardson, TX are also considered.
