Our client is the multi-strategy hedge fund arm of a globally recognised investment management firm overseeing more than $50bn in assets. As part of a significant strategic expansion, they are seeking to hire an experienced Equity Long/Short Portfolio Manager focused on Industrials to establish and scale a dedicated strategy from their New York office.
This represents a rare opportunity for an experienced PM to join a well-capitalised platform that combines the entrepreneurial freedom of running an independent book with the stability, infrastructure, and long-term mindset of a major institutional asset manager.
The Opportunity
Unlike traditional pod shops, this platform operates within a highly collaborative environment where Portfolio Managers are viewed as long-term strategic investments rather than short-term performance hires.
The successful candidate will be responsible for building and managing a dedicated fundamental Equity Long/Short Industrials strategy, with full ownership of idea generation, portfolio construction, position sizing, risk management, and overall investment decisions.
Each PM runs a standalone book and has significant autonomy over how they construct and manage their strategy. The firm is particularly interested in experienced investors with a repeatable investment process, a demonstrated ability to generate alpha on both the long and short sides, and the potential to scale meaningful institutional capital over time.

Candidate Profile
The ideal candidate will possess:
- A demonstrable track record managing or taking significant investment responsibility for a fundamental Equity Long/Short strategy
- Deep expertise across Industrials, with the ability to generate differentiated long and short ideas
- Experience investing within a hedge fund, asset manager, family office, or similar institutional environment
- A clearly defined and repeatable fundamental investment process
- Strong company-level research capabilities, including financial modelling, valuation, management assessment, and variant-view idea generation
- Evidence of consistent risk-adjusted performance across varying market environments
- Strong understanding of portfolio construction, factor exposures, sizing, liquidity, gross/net exposure, and drawdown management
- A strategy capable of scaling meaningful institutional capital
- The desire to build a long-term franchise within a stable platform rather than operate under highly restrictive pod-shop conditions
