Director of Accounting

A technology-driven insurance company specializing in climate risk solutions is seeking a Director of Accounting to lead its financial operations during a period of rapid growth. This strategic role will oversee statutory reporting, drive improvements in financial systems, and ensure compliance across a broader range of services and products. This is a hybrid opportunity in Sarasota/Tampa.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead the development and execution of statutory financial reporting in compliance with regulatory requirements.
• Oversee the monthly, quarterly, and annual close processes, ensuring accuracy and timeliness.
• Manage relationships with external auditors and regulatory bodies to ensure transparency and compliance.
• Provide strategic financial insights and analysis to executive leadership to support decision-making.
• Design, implement, and enhance internal controls, accounting policies, and financial systems.
• Mentor and develop accounting team members, fostering a culture of excellence and accountability.

Qualifications

• Active CPA license (required)
• 10+ years of progressive accounting experience, including leadership roles in statutory accounting.
• Deep expertise in GAAP and insurance industry regulations.
• Proven experience with financial systems implementation and optimization.
• Advanced proficiency in accounting software and Excel.
• Strong leadership, strategic thinking, and communication skills.
