Controller

Overview:
A growing, mid-sized law firm is seeking a hands-on Controller to lead day-to-day financial operations. This is an ideal opportunity for a finance professional who thrives in a lean, collaborative environment and is comfortable both executing and overseeing core accounting and finance functions.

Position Summary:
The Controller will manage full financial operations, including billing, cash management, trust accounting, and team oversight. This is a highly hands-on role requiring strong operational execution and the ability to manage competing priorities.

Key Responsibilities:

• Oversee all day-to-day financial operations
• Manage billing, collections, and revenue cycle processes
• Own cash management, including forecasting and liquidity oversight
• Direct accounts payable and accounts receivable
• Administer and reconcile trust accounts (IOLTA / client funds) in compliance with regulations
• Ensure accuracy of financial records and maintain strong internal controls
• Partner with external CPA firm on tax and compliance matters
• Supervise and develop a small internal team
• Support leadership with financial reporting and operational insights

Qualifications:

• 7+ years of accounting/finance experience, with a strong operational focus
• Proven experience in a hands-on accounting or Controller capacity
• Direct experience with billing, cash management, AP/AR oversight
• Exposure to or experience with trust accounts / client funds (IOLTA highly preferred)
• Background within a law firm strongly preferred, or related industries
• Experience working in a small to mid-sized organization with evolving processes
• Demonstrated ability to manage and mentor a small team
• Strong attention to detail, ownership mindset, and ability to operate independently
