Commercial General Liability Director
A respected and growing property & casualty insurance carrier is seeking a Commercial General Liability Claims Director to provide leadership and strategic oversight for its commercial liability claims operation. This is a unique opportunity to join a highly visible department and play a key role in shaping processes, developing talent, and supporting continued growth across the Mid-Atlantic region.
This position offers the chance to work closely with senior leadership while leading a team of Claims Supervisors and claims professionals handling complex commercial liability exposures.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead, mentor, and develop Commercial Claims Supervisors and their teams.
- Foster a culture of accountability, continuous improvement, professional development, and exceptional customer service.
- Provide strategic direction for the Commercial Claims operation, including workflow design, operational improvements, and best practices.
- Offer guidance on complex coverage determinations and litigated claims across multiple jurisdictions.
- Conduct file reviews and performance assessments to ensure quality handling and regulatory compliance.
- Assist in developing and delivering training programs focused on emerging issues, complex claims, and policy interpretation.
- Manage relationships with defense counsel, experts, and external vendors.
- Participate in agent, broker, and insured claim review meetings and help prepare exposure analyses.
- Identify trends, capacity concerns, and operational challenges, while recommending solutions and improvements.
- Present departmental results and performance metrics to senior claims leadership.
- Support recruiting, interviewing, and talent development initiatives.
- Investigate and respond to regulatory inquiries and complaints when necessary.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree required.
- Minimum of 2 years of commercial claims supervisory or management experience.
- Several years of commercial casualty/general liability claims experience with an insurance carrier.
- Strong commercial coverage knowledge and technical claims expertise.
- Experience managing complex and litigated commercial claims.
- Proven ability to coach, develop, and lead high-performing teams.
- Excellent analytical, problem-solving, decision-making, and organizational skills.
- Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal communication abilities.
