Overview
A leading global commodity trading house is seeking an experienced Derivatives Base Metals Trader to build and lead its base metals derivatives trading desk. This is a unique greenfield opportunity for an entrepreneurial trader with a proven track record of generating P&L and developing trading strategies across the global base metals complex.
The successful candidate will be responsible for establishing the desk, developing trading strategies, building market relationships, and creating a scalable platform capable of generating significant revenues across both proprietary and client-driven opportunities.
The firm offers substantial risk appetite, access to capital, and the autonomy required to develop a best-in-class metals derivatives franchise.
Key Responsibilities
- Establish and build the company's dedicated base metals derivatives trading desk.
- Develop and execute profitable proprietary trading strategies across futures, options, swaps, and OTC markets.
- Trade and manage risk across:
- Copper
- Aluminium
- Zinc
- Nickel
- Lead
- Tin
- Create and implement the desk's trading framework, risk parameters, and growth strategy.
- Identify market opportunities across outright, spread, arbitrage, relative value, and volatility strategies.
- Develop relationships with producers, consumers, commodity trading houses, brokers, funds, and financial institutions globally.
- Work alongside physical trading teams to optimise hedging and trading opportunities.
- Analyse global supply and demand fundamentals, inventory movements, macroeconomic data, and physical market flows.
- Generate market intelligence and actionable trade ideas for senior management.
- Play a leading role in future team growth, including the hiring and mentoring of additional traders and analysts.
Requirements
- 7+ years of experience trading base metals derivatives.
- Demonstrated track record of generating consistent and profitable P&L.
- Experience trading LME and CME/COMEX products.
- Strong understanding of futures, options, OTC derivatives, and structured transactions.
- Deep knowledge of global metals markets and market drivers.
- Entrepreneurial mindset with the ability to operate independently.
- Experience building or growing a trading business, franchise, or revenue stream is highly desirable.
- Excellent commercial instincts and risk management capabilities.
