Vice President (VP) Software Engineering
Selby Jennings is currently partnered with a globally-leading investment bank & financial services firm on a search to fill two separate VP Software Engineering positions (full time, fully in-office) in Salt Lake City (Utah). The two positions will both be individual contributors and both are business-critical for the firm, hiring ASAP. The two spaces that these positions operate in are Artifacts Hosting & Ingestion and Ephemeral Environments. An ideal candidate, for either role, will have 10+ YOE in developer experience (DevEx) of some kind (key skills like CI/CD pipelines, SDLC, DevOps and/or SRE work, and proficiency in code like Java, Python, and/or Go). Banking/financial experience is not a hard-set requirement, however, expertise in regulatory & compliance is a major competitive edge. Both sponsorship and relocation assistance to Salt Lake City are offered.
Responsibilities:
- Architect and implement scalable, distributed systems for build, testing, artifact hosting, and deployment
- Design and maintain ephemeral environments that simulate production for safe and efficient testing
- Manage internal and external software ingestion, artifact repositories, and container registries
- Develop and support CI/CD tooling and infrastructure across on-prem and cloud environments
- Collaborate with global engineering teams to define and execute long-term strategies with incremental value delivery
- Ensure high availability, performance, and reliability of SDLC platforms and services
- Provide technical leadership and best practices to engineering, business, and operations teams
- Troubleshoot and optimize systems in Linux environments, including networking and storage
Skills/Experience:
- 10+ years of professional software development experience in Java, Python, Go, or similar languages
- Strong understanding of cloud-native architectures and services (AWS, Serverless, EC2, S3, RDS)
- Experience with CI/CD platforms (GitLab, Jenkins), build tools (Maven, Gradle, Bazel), and artifact repositories (Sonatype Nexus, PyPi, NPM)
- Familiarity with containerization and orchestration (Docker, Kubernetes, Terraform)
- Proven ability to design and operate mid- to large-scale distributed systems
- Solid grasp of DevOps, SRE, and infrastructure-as-code principles
- Knowledge of relational databases (PostgreSQL) and Linux-based application hosting
- Excellent problem-solving, communication, and collaboration skills in a global team environment
