Job Overview
A leading energy marketing and asset optimization organization is seeking an experienced natural gas professional to join its Texas team. This role will focus on optimizing transportation and storage assets through physical natural gas trading, hedging, and commercial strategy development. The individual will play a key role in maximizing asset value, identifying market opportunities, and helping shape the long-term commercial strategy of a large asset-backed portfolio.
Responsibilities
- Manage and optimize transportation and storage positions across a large natural gas asset portfolio.
- Trade physical natural gas on a daily, monthly, and term basis to capture locational and time spreads.
- Develop and execute transportation and storage hedging strategies using a fundamentals-driven approach.
- Monitor market conditions, supply and demand fundamentals, and pricing dynamics to identify opportunities and risks.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with internal stakeholders, pipelines, customers, and counterparties.
- Evaluate market intelligence and communicate actionable insights to senior leadership.
- Assist with forecasting, budgeting, business planning, and commercial strategy development.
- Work closely with origination, scheduling, operations, and business development teams to maximize value creation.
- Support system growth initiatives by identifying and evaluating commercial opportunities.
- Contribute to process improvements and best practices across the organization.
- Provide mentorship and leadership support as the team expands and succession planning initiatives progress.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Business, Finance, Economics, Engineering, or a related field preferred.
- 10+ years of natural gas industry experience, ideally with exposure to both trading and scheduling.
- Strong understanding of transportation and storage optimization.
- Experience managing physical and financial natural gas positions.
- Texas Intrastate experience strongly preferred; Gulf Coast and Midwest experience will also be considered.
- Knowledge of natural gas market fundamentals, infrastructure, and operations.
- Demonstrated analytical and quantitative capabilities.
- Strong communication and relationship management skills.
- Experience working in an asset-backed trading environment preferred.
