Technical Program Director
The Role
We are looking for a seasoned, delivery-driven Technical Program Director to lead the end-to-end execution of a core banking technology platform.
In this highly visible leadership position, you will act as the connective tissue between business objectives and technical delivery. You will be accountable for converting strategic product goals into concrete technical requirements, leading the assessment and selection of critical third-party partners (including sponsor banks and payment providers), and driving a comprehensive implementation plan to support a successful launch.
The ideal candidate is both a practical technologist and an exceptional program leader, with a proven ability to manage complex fintech integrations. You are comfortable operating in ambiguous environments, skilled at holding external partners accountable, and motivated by building scalable, durable operating foundations.
Key Responsibilities
Business-to-Technical Translation: Collaborate closely with Product and Executive leadership to interpret business goals and convert them into clear technical requirements, system designs, and architectural documentation.
Third-Party Strategy & Selection: Lead technical due diligence, RFP processes, and vendor evaluations for key platform partners, including sponsor banks, core processing platforms (e.g., Galileo, Marqeta), identity and compliance providers, and ledger systems.
Program Execution & Delivery: Own the integrated program roadmap and delivery timeline. Coordinate cross-functional efforts between internal teams and external vendor engineering groups, ensuring dependencies are managed and milestones are met.
Architecture Governance: Oversee the end-to-end platform architecture to ensure scalability, security, and adherence to regulatory requirements and sponsor bank technical standards.
Risk & Dependency Management: Identify technical, operational, and delivery risks early. Develop mitigation plans and escalate critical issues to senior leadership with clear options and recommendations.
Operating Model Development: Define and implement technical program management processes, agile delivery practices, and documentation standards that can scale with organizational growth.
Qualifications
Experience: 8+ years in technical program management, systems integration, or solutions architecture roles, including at least 3 years leading large-scale, cross-functional initiatives.
Domain Knowledge: Strong understanding of the fintech landscape, BaaS platforms, and modern payment ecosystems, with deep insight into how digital banking infrastructures operate behind the scenes.
Vendor Leadership: Demonstrated success managing complex, high-investment third-party implementations and enforcing accountability across external partners, SLAs, and delivery commitments.
Technical Fluency: Comfortable working with APIs, system architectures, and end-to-end data flows. While hands-on coding is not required, you must be capable of challenging technical assumptions and design decisions.
Executive Communication: Ability to clearly articulate complex technical challenges, trade-offs, and risks in business terms for senior leadership and investors.
Builder Mindset: Thrives in early-stage or growth environments. Willing to be hands-on, adapt quickly, and contribute equally to detailed documentation and executive-level presentations.
