Location: Texas (Remote - Texas-based)
About the Role
Our client is seeking an experienced Senior Personal Lines Underwriter to support and grow their personal lines portfolio in Texas. This role is ideal for a seasoned underwriting professional with strong technical expertise, sound judgment, and the ability to build productive relationships with agents and internal partners. The Senior Underwriter will play a key role in maintaining underwriting discipline while supporting profitable growth.
Key Responsibilities
- Underwrite new and renewal personal lines business in accordance with underwriting guidelines, authority levels, and regulatory requirements
- Evaluate risk characteristics, coverage needs, pricing, and policy terms for personal lines products such as homeowners, personal auto, and related lines
- Serve as a subject matter expert and provide guidance to junior underwriters and underwriting assistants
- Partner with agents and brokers to drive profitable growth and deliver strong customer service
- Review, negotiate, and approve endorsements, renewals, and exceptions within assigned authority
- Monitor portfolio performance and loss trends, recommending actions as needed to improve results
- Ensure compliance with Texas Department of Insurance (TDI) regulations and company standards
- Collaborate with underwriting leadership on product, pricing, and process improvements
Qualifications
- 7+ years of personal lines underwriting experience, including complex or high-value risks
- Strong knowledge of personal lines products, underwriting principles, and risk selection
- Texas underwriting experience required
- Demonstrated ability to make independent underwriting decisions within delegated authority
- Excellent analytical, communication, and negotiation skills
- Proven ability to manage workload effectively in a fast-paced environment
- Proficiency with underwriting systems and standard insurance software tools
Preferred Qualifications
- CPCU or other insurance designations strongly preferred
- Experience working within an MGA or specialty underwriting environment
- Mentorship or leadership experience
