A well‑established, privately held real estate investment firm headquartered in San Francisco is seeking a Senior Portfolio Accountant to join its growing finance team. This firm invests across a diversified U.S. commercial real estate portfolio and is known for its long‑term, value‑driven investment approach.
This role is ideal for a hands‑on accounting professional who enjoys owning the full accounting cycle for complex real estate assets and partnering closely with investment, asset management, and operations teams.
What You'll Do
- Oversee full‑cycle accounting for a portfolio of real estate entities, including monthly, quarterly, and annual closes
- Prepare and review financial statements in accordance with GAAP
- Manage property‑level and entity‑level accounting, including consolidations
- Reconcile balance sheet and income statement accounts
- Coordinate with third‑party property managers, external accountants, and auditors
- Assist with budgeting, forecasting, and variance analysis
- Support capital transactions, including acquisitions, dispositions, refinancings, and development activity
- Improve and document accounting processes, controls, and reporting efficiencies
- Provide mentorship and review work of junior accounting staff (as applicable)
What They're Looking For
- 5+ years of progressive accounting experience, ideally within real estate, private equity, or investment management
- Strong understanding of commercial real estate accounting (entities, properties, partnerships)
- Experience preparing and reviewing financial statements
- Proficiency with accounting systems (e.g., Yardi, MRI, or similar preferred)
- Advanced Excel skills
- Detail‑oriented, deadline‑driven, and comfortable managing multiple entities
- Strong communication skills and ability to collaborate cross‑functionally
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field (CPA a plus)
