Role Overview
As part of the second line of defence, the Senior Operational Risk Officer supports the implementation and continuous enhancement of the organisation's Operational Risk Management Framework, ensuring alignment with regulatory requirements, internal policies, and enterprise standards.
Reporting to the Senior Operational Risk Manager, this role contributes to second‑line oversight, including assistance with RCSA assessments, support for control testing, preparation of reports, and coordination with business units on business continuity and access management.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Support and facilitate the implementation and reporting of the organisation's RCSA process, ensuring risks and controls are appropriately identified, assessed, managed, and monitored.
- Manage and maintain the central risk and control library.
- Analyse risk and control assessments, data, and metrics to identify trends and emerging risks through root cause analysis and deep‑dive reviews.
- Conduct assurance reviews, including sample checks, of first‑line control testing activities.
- Support the development and execution of effective fraud prevention measures.
- Assess existing fraud controls, policies, and procedures.
- Prepare reports for senior management, providing insight and analysis on risk management and control effectiveness, with recommendations aligned to the organisation's risk appetite.
- Provide second‑line input and oversight on key change initiatives across the organisation.
- Promote and embed a strong operational risk culture by raising awareness across teams.
- Assist with periodic updates of policies, procedures, and guidelines to ensure regulatory, industry, and internal governance alignment.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Experience
- Minimum of 3 years' experience in operational risk management or internal audit, preferably within financial services; experience in technology and data is considered an asset.
- Strong knowledge of operational risk management principles, including RCSA frameworks.
- Experience conducting control testing and working with assurance providers such as Internal Audit.
- Ability to deliver insightful risk analysis and communicate effectively with senior management, including providing constructive second‑line challenge.
- Experience managing or facilitating RCSA processes.
- Ability to work collaboratively with stakeholders to drive improvement of internal controls.
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in a relevant field.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English; additional languages are considered an advantage.
- Prior experience in fraud risk management is preferred.
- Professional qualifications (completed or in progress) in risk management, compliance, or internal audit are desirable.
