Quantitative Developer/Software Engineer - Commodities Trading

A leading multi-strategy hedge fund based in New York City is hiring a Software Engineer / Quant Developer to join its newly launched commodities trading business. This is a front-office, high-impact role supporting a greenfield initiative, where you'll work directly with decision-makers to architect and build the technology infrastructure from scratch. The hiring manager has a long track record of building risk and pricing analytics infrastructure at various hedge funds, and has recently joined the team to lead this initiative.

The ideal candidate will have 5+ years of professional experience, high level programming proficiency in Python and Pandas, and preferably from a financial services background, as they would like to hire someone who has worked on either the buyside or the sell side.


Responsibilities:

  • Build strategic systems to support commodities trading, pricing, and risk analytics.
  • Collaborate closely with portfolio managers, risk teams, and other technologists.
  • Design and develop tools for data flow, storage, distribution, and visualization.
  • Translate complex data into actionable insights for the trading desk and to be used by portfolio managers.
  • Develop and implement models for risk and pricing.

Qualifications

  • 5+ years of experience in software development, ideally in financial services.
  • Strong Python skills, especially with Pandas and numerical libraries.
  • Experience building models for high-performance calculations.
  • Familiarity with AWS (S3, EC2, EKS, Airflow) and CI/CD tools (Git, Jenkins).
  • Bonus: Experience with commodities, pricing models, or risk analytics.
