A private credit firm in the Raleigh-Durham area is seeking a Vice President to join its growing investment team. The firm focuses on providing debt capital to lower‑middle‑market businesses across a broad range of industries, with an emphasis on disciplined underwriting, strong partnerships with financial sponsors, and long‑term portfolio stewardship.

As Vice President, you will play a central role in originating, evaluating, structuring, and managing private credit investments. You will work closely with senior leadership throughout the full credit investment lifecycle-from initial screening through underwriting, documentation, closing, and ongoing portfolio monitoring. This role offers the opportunity to influence investment decisions, deepen sponsor relationships, and contribute meaningfully to the continued growth of the platform.

Responsibilities

  • Lead underwriting and due diligence for prospective credit investments, including financial analysis, quality of earnings review, capital structure assessment, and downside protection evaluation.
  • Develop credit memoranda, risk assessments, and investment recommendations for the firm's Investment Committee.
  • Perform detailed financial modeling, scenario analysis, and covenant structuring to appropriately price and protect each transaction.
  • Oversee portfolio monitoring, including reviewing monthly/quarterly performance, covenant compliance, variance analysis, and proactive risk management.
  • Engage directly with private equity sponsors, intermediaries, and borrowers to source new opportunities and maintain long‑term relationships.
  • Negotiate term sheets and legal documentation in partnership with internal and external counsel.
  • Support fundraising efforts by preparing materials and participating in discussions with current and prospective investors.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in finance, accounting, business, or related field; MBA or CFA preferred.
  • 6-8 years of experience in private credit, leveraged finance, investment banking, restructuring, or adjacent credit disciplines.
  • Proven ability to underwrite, structure, and execute credit transactions from start to finish.
  • Strong technical skills, including financial modeling, credit analysis, and legal document review.
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to present complex credit risks and recommendations clearly.
  • Entrepreneurial, proactive, and capable of building sponsor relationships and sourcing opportunities.
  • Ability to thrive in a lean, collaborative, fast‑paced environment.
