Operational Risk Manager- Prop Trading
A proprietary trading firm in Chicago is hiring an Operational Risk Manager as they continue to scale their operational risk function. This person will combine strategic thinking with hands on-execution to design frameworks, embed risk practices, and strengthen a proactive risk culture.
C-level leadership at the firm is empowering the operations and operational risk functions to deep dive on risk management processes, control frameworks, and due diligence best practices to enact and implement improvements upon the risk management structure.
The firm trades across all asset classes and each line of business will have varying degrees of operational complexity due to their respective markets. This is a hands on role where the hiring manager is challenging a commercial individual to come in and partner with business leaders in Risk, Trading, Quant, Technology, Compliance, and other core functions in order to streamline daily operations and implement longer term projects.
Responsibilities:
- Identify and assess operational risks across trading and support teams
- Help design and roll out the firm's operational risk framework
- Monitor emerging risks, KRI's, and key events
- Provide challenge and guidance aligned with risk appetite
- Produce risk reports, dashboards, and leadership updates
- Deliver training to build risk awareness
Requirements:
- 5-7 years in operational risk or related roles
- Strong understanding of risk frameworks, controls and governance
- Experience implementing and improving risk programs
- Ability to identify risks early and perform root cause analysis
- Strong analytical, communication, and stakeholder skills
- Collaborative mindset and commitment to building risk culture
