About the Opportunity
A leading specialty insurance organization is seeking an experienced Ocean Marine Underwriter to join its growing underwriting team. This individual will be responsible for underwriting and managing a diverse portfolio of ocean marine business while developing strong broker relationships and driving profitable growth.
This is an excellent opportunity for an underwriting professional looking to work with complex marine risks across domestic and international exposures in a highly visible and growth-oriented environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Underwrite ocean marine risks including Cargo, Hull & Machinery, Marine Liabilities, Terminal Operators, Freight Forwarders, Logistics Providers, and Marine Trades accounts
- Evaluate submissions and determine appropriate pricing, terms, conditions, and coverage structures
- Develop and manage a profitable book of marine business within established underwriting authority
- Analyze loss history, operational exposures, financial data, and risk characteristics
- Build and maintain strong relationships with retail and wholesale brokers
- Collaborate with claims, risk engineering, actuarial, and legal teams to support underwriting decisions
- Conduct portfolio reviews and monitor profitability trends
- Identify new business opportunities and drive growth within assigned territories
- Stay current on industry trends, market conditions, international trade developments, and emerging marine risks
- Travel as needed for broker meetings, industry events, and client visits
Qualifications
- 3+ years of commercial insurance underwriting experience
- Ocean Marine underwriting experience strongly preferred
- Knowledge of marine insurance products, policy forms, and coverage structures
- Strong analytical, negotiation, and decision-making abilities
- Proven success managing broker relationships and developing new business opportunities
- Excellent communication and presentation skills
- Ability to evaluate complex risks and make sound underwriting decisions
- Bachelor's degree preferred
- CPCU, AMIM, or other industry designations are a plus
