Overview
An established proprietary energy trading firm is looking to hire a Lead Quantitative Trader to play a key role in the development and execution of systematic trading strategies across European power and energy markets. This position offers the opportunity to combine hands-on trading with leadership responsibilities, managing and mentoring a growing team of traders and quantitative professionals.
The ideal candidate will have a strong track record in energy trading, a deep understanding of quantitative methodologies, and experience leading high-performing teams in a fast-paced commercial environment.
Dutch language skills are strongly preferred due to the nature of market interactions and internal collaboration.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead, mentor, and develop a team of quantitative traders and analysts.
- Design, implement, and enhance systematic trading strategies across power and energy markets.
- Identify new market opportunities through quantitative research and advanced data analysis.
- Oversee risk management processes and ensure trading activities remain within defined limits.
- Collaborate with technology, data, and research teams to improve trading infrastructure and execution capabilities.
- Drive innovation in forecasting, modelling, and optimization techniques.
- Contribute to strategic decision-making and support the continued growth of the trading business.
Requirements
- Extensive experience trading European power, energy, or related commodity markets.
- Strong quantitative and analytical background with the ability to develop data-driven trading strategies.
- Proven experience managing, coaching, and building trading teams.
- Solid understanding of market fundamentals, risk management, and portfolio optimization.
- Experience working closely with developers, quantitative researchers, and data teams.
- Strong communication and stakeholder management skills.
- Dutch language proficiency preferred.
Desired Background
- Experience within proprietary trading, utilities, energy trading firms, or commodity-focused investment businesses.
- Knowledge of algorithmic or systematic trading approaches.
- Familiarity with electricity, gas, renewables, balancing markets, or related energy products.
- Advanced degree in Mathematics, Physics, Engineering, Econometrics, Computer Science, or a related quantitative discipline.
