Selby Jennings is partnering with a leading advisory firm seeking a Vice President to join its Financial Advisory Team in Dana Point, CA. This individual will play a lead role in executing and originating advisory engagements, with a focus on M&A, valuations, due diligence, and broader financial consulting within the wealth advisory space.

This role centers on clients across the RIA, retirement, life insurance, and wealth management sectors. The VP will lead transaction teams, manage client relationships, and oversee engagements from initial pitch through closing.

Key Responsibilities

  • Serve as the primary client contact on M&A and financial consulting engagements, owning strategy, execution, and delivery.
  • Lead both sell-side and buy-side transactions, including financial modeling, due diligence, buyer/seller outreach, deal structuring, negotiation, and process management through close.
  • Drive business development by identifying new opportunities, deepening client relationships, and positioning the firm as a strategic advisor.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with clients, partners, and internal stakeholders to support deal flow and long-term growth.
  • Oversee project execution, including timeline management, quality control, and preparation of client-ready materials.
  • Mentor and manage junior team members, providing direction, feedback, and performance oversight.
  • Contribute to thought leadership through industry insights, market commentary, and published content.
  • Stay current on industry trends and incorporate best practices into client solutions and service offerings.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, or a related field; advanced degree (MBA or JD) a plus.
  • Relevant certifications (CPA, CVA, CPCU, AM&AA) preferred.
  • 6-10+ years of experience in investment banking, transaction advisory, corporate development, or related financial services.
  • Proven track record of leading deal teams and managing client relationships.
  • Strong analytical, financial modeling, and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent communication skills (written and verbal).
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, PowerPoint, Word).
  • Willingness to obtain required licenses through the firm's affiliated broker-dealer.
  • Ability to travel up to ~40% as needed.
