Global Consumer Equity Analyst, Long Short
Overview
A leading global investment firm is seeking a Global Consumer Equity Analyst to join its fundamental long/short equity platform. This role will focus on identifying differentiated investment opportunities across the global consumer universe, including consumer discretionary and consumer staples, with the goal of generating actionable long and short ideas. The analyst will work closely with the Portfolio Manager and broader investment team to conduct deep fundamental research, develop investment theses, and contribute directly to portfolio performance.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct in-depth fundamental research on global consumer companies across sectors such as retail, luxury, food & beverage, household products, personal care, e-commerce, and other consumer-related sub-sectors
- Build and maintain detailed financial models, valuation frameworks, and scenario analyses
- Generate differentiated long and short investment ideas with clear catalysts, variant perception, and well-defined risk/reward
- Monitor earnings, industry trends, competitive dynamics, consumer demand indicators, and macro developments relevant to the coverage universe
- Conduct channel checks, expert calls, management meetings, and other primary research to validate investment views
- Present investment recommendations to the Portfolio Manager and participate in ongoing portfolio discussions
- Work closely with colleagues across regions to share insights and refine sector views
Requirements
- 3-8 years of experience in equity research, investment banking, or buy-side investing, ideally with exposure to the consumer sector
- Strong fundamental research, financial modeling, and valuation skills
- Demonstrated interest in long/short investing and the ability to develop differentiated stock views
- Solid understanding of global consumer business models and key sector drivers
- Strong communication and presentation skills, with the ability to articulate investment ideas clearly and concisely
- Self-starter with high intellectual curiosity, attention to detail, and the ability to thrive in a fast-paced investment environment
- Global mindset and flexibility to analyze companies across multiple geographies
- Mandarin language capability is a plus, depending on regional coverage
Preferred Profile
- Prior coverage of consumer discretionary and/or consumer staples names
- Experience generating actionable stock ideas in a hedge fund or active investment environment
- Comfort working in a lean, entrepreneurial team structure with direct exposure to the investment decision-making process
