About the Role
We are partnering with a leading hedge fund to appoint a Head of Finance in Shanghai. This position owns the full finance agenda across fund and management company entities-governance, reporting, tax, controls, and finance transformation-while serving as a strategic partner to the CEO/CIO and Operations/Compliance leads.
Key Responsibilities
Financial leadership & controllership
- Own end‑to‑end finance for onshore entities (fund & management company), including PRC GAAP books, month/quarter/year‑end close, audit, and statutory filings.
- Oversee NAV oversight and valuation controls (pricing sources, fair value hierarchy, side‑pockets if applicable); reconcile with fund administrator, custodian, and prime brokers.
- Lead the annual audit and coordinate with Big Four/top‑tier firms; manage tax planning and filings (CIT, VAT, IIT), incentives, and transfer‑pricing documentation.
- Establish and enhance internal control and SOX‑like frameworks (ITGC/ITAC touchpoints), financial policies, and delegation of authority.
Management reporting & FP&A
- Deliver timely management reporting, performance/fee analytics (management/performance fees, hurdle/high‑water mark), cashflow forecasting, and capital planning.
- Build KPI dashboards (e.g., cost ratio, desk P&L transparency, broker/custody fee benchmarking) and drive budget vs. actuals variance analysis.
Treasury, liquidity & counterparty management
- Oversee bank relationships, capital calls/redemptions, intercompany flows, and liquidity buffers; optimize working capital and treasury operations.
- Monitor financing costs, collateral/margin usage with prime brokers, and settlement efficiency in partnership with Trading/Ops.
Regulatory, tax & risk
- Ensure compliance with CSRC/AMAC requirements and relevant SAFE, MOF, and tax bureau rules for fund/AMC structures; coordinate with legal & compliance on new policies.
- Maintain robust control testing, incident remediation, and finance risk register.
People, systems & process excellence
- Lead and mentor a small finance team; oversee vendor selection and SLA governance (fund admin, tax advisor, auditor).
- Drive tooling and automation across GL and reporting; experience with Advent Geneva, EZE/Paxus, Imagine, and BI tools (Power BI/Tableau) is advantageous.
