About Us

Our client is a global investment firm headquartered in Amsterdam, managing a diverse portfolio across multiple asset classes. They are looking for a hands-on Engineering Manager to lead their backend engineering team.

As an Engineering Manager, you will lead a team of talented backend engineers working on mission-critical systems that power their investment platforms. You will be responsible for technical leadership, team development, and delivering high-quality backend solutions using Python, Azure, and SQL. This is a hybrid role that combines people management with hands-on engineering.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead, mentor, and grow a team of currently 7 backend engineers.
  • Drive the design, development, and deployment of scalable backend systems.
  • Collaborate with product managers, data scientists, and other stakeholders to define technical requirements and deliver solutions.
  • Ensure best practices in software engineering, including code quality, testing, and CI/CD.
  • Stay hands-on with coding, architecture reviews, and troubleshooting.
  • Manage project time lines, technical road maps, and team performance.
  • Foster a culture of innovation, ownership, and continuous improvement.

Tech Stack

  • Languages: Python (FastAPI, Flask, etc.)
  • Cloud: Microsoft Azure (App Services, Functions, Key Vault, etc.)
  • Databases: SQL Server, PostgreSQL, Azure SQL
  • Tools: Git, Docker, Kubernetes, Terraform, Azure DevOps

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field.
  • 7+ years of back end development experience, with at least 2 years in a leadership role.
  • Strong proficiency in Python and SQL.
  • Proven experience with Azure cloud services and infrastructure.
  • Solid understanding of software architecture, design patterns, and system scalability.
  • Excellent communication and leadership skills.
  • Experience in the financial or investment domain is a plus.
