Overview

Our client is a Michigan‑based private equity firm focused on control investments in lower‑middle‑market businesses. The firm partners closely with management teams to drive operational improvement, financial discipline, and long‑term value creation. As the firm continues to scale its portfolio, they are seeking a Director of Finance to serve as a senior finance leader across the platform.

This is a hands‑on role for a finance professional who thrives in a fast‑paced private equity environment and enjoys operating at the intersection of accounting, finance, and operations. The Director of Finance will work closely with the investment team, operating partners, and portfolio company leadership to ensure strong financial reporting, effective controls, and data‑driven decision‑making.

Responsibilities

  • Own and oversee financial reporting, budgeting, forecasting, and cash flow management across the firm and select portfolio companies
  • Lead month‑end, quarter‑end, and year‑end close processes, ensuring accuracy and timeliness
  • Partner with portfolio company management teams to improve financial processes, reporting cadence, and internal controls
  • Support transaction activity including acquisitions, add‑ons, and integrations through financial analysis and diligence support
  • Prepare and present financial materials for internal leadership, investment committee, and external stakeholders
  • Oversee audit, tax, and compliance processes, coordinating with external advisors as needed
  • Drive implementation and enhancement of financial systems, reporting tools, and KPIs
  • Act as a trusted finance partner to operations, supporting value creation initiatives such as working capital optimization, cost reduction, and margin improvement

Qualifications

  • 8+ years of progressive experience in finance and accounting, ideally within private equity, PE‑backed companies, or transaction‑oriented environments
  • Strong foundation in accounting and financial reporting; CPA or public accounting background preferred
  • Experience supporting M&A activity, integrations, or complex operational environments
  • Proven ability to operate both strategically and hands‑on in lean, high‑performance organizations
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to work effectively with investors, executives, and operating teams
  • Experience in manufacturing, industrials, business services, or other operationally intensive sectors is a plus
  • Based in Michigan or willing to be on‑site in a hybrid or in‑office capacity as needed
