Key Responsibilities
- Identify, assess, and prioritise alternative, fundamental, market, and proprietary data sources that can generate value for investment teams.
- Lead engagement with data vendors, including evaluations, commercial negotiations, licensing reviews, and ongoing relationship management.
- Develop and maintain a robust framework for dataset due diligence covering quality, coverage, refresh frequency, licensing, and implementation requirements.
- Evaluate investment research requirements and proactively source data capable of supporting new investment insights.
- Acquire data through multiple channels including third-party vendors, web-sourced datasets, and internal proprietary data assets.
- Standardise and normalise data from diverse providers to improve consistency and usability across research workflows.
- Build and maintain early-stage data ingestion processes using Python, SQL, APIs, and file-based integrations.
- Partner closely with investment professionals to translate research needs into scalable data solutions.
- Identify emerging and niche data providers across Asia and evaluate their potential application within investment research.
- Experience working with alternative data within asset management, hedge funds, investment firms, or data providers.
- Strong understanding of how investment teams consume and apply data within the research process.
- Experience across multiple data domains, including alternative data, fundamental company data, and market data.
- Hands-on familiarity with major financial data platforms and vendors.
- Proven experience managing the full data lifecycle, from sourcing and procurement through integration and operational support.
- Knowledge of data connectivity technologies including APIs, file transfer solutions, and vendor integration tools.
- Strong Python and SQL skills, with the ability to independently build and maintain data pipelines.
- Demonstrated ability to assess data quality, identify signal versus noise, and evaluate long-term dataset value.
- Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills, particularly when engaging investment professionals and external vendors.
- Prior experience within financial services or investment management is essential.
Nice to Have
- Exposure to AI, machine learning, agentic systems, or data platforms supporting AI-driven research workflows.
- Experience collaborating closely with fundamental equity research teams.
- Background in data engineering, data analytics, or alternative data product development.
- Familiarity with Asian markets and regional data ecosystems.
- Mandarin and/or Cantonese language capabilities.
