Data Center Engineer

Location: Chicago, IL (Onsite / Hybrid depending on team)

Overview

We are seeking a Data Center Engineer to support and evolve the physical infrastructure behind a high-performance trading environment. This role sits close to the trading and compute stack and is responsible for maintaining ultrareliable, lowlatency systems that support HPC workloads and latencysensitive applications.

Responsibilities

  • Operate and maintain critical data center infrastructure supporting high-frequency and HPC workloads
  • Install, configure, and troubleshoot servers, network gear, and storage systems
  • Perform hardware lifecycle management including racking, stacking, cabling, and break/fix
  • Partner closely with systems, network, and trading infrastructure teams to ensure uptime and performance
  • Support low-latency environments with strict SLAs and change controls
  • Monitor environmental conditions (power, cooling, space) and drive capacity planning
  • Coordinate hands-on work with vendors, colocation providers, and internal engineering teams
  • Participate in incident response and root cause analysis for hardware or facility-related issues

Requirements

  • 3+ years of experience as a Data Center Engineer or similar hands-on infrastructure role
  • Experience in a trading firm, HPC environment, or other performance-critical infrastructure
  • Strong understanding of server hardware, networking fundamentals, and data center operations
  • Hands-on experience with Linux-based environments
  • Familiarity with structured cabling, power distribution, and cooling best practices
  • Comfortable working in production environments where reliability and speed matter
  • Ability to work onsite and perform physical work in the data center as needed

Nice to Have

  • Exposure to HPC clusters, GPU infrastructure, or high-density compute
  • Experience supporting low-latency trading or real-time systems
  • Scripting or automation experience (Python, Bash, etc.)
  • Knowledge of monitoring, hardware telemetry, or infrastructure observability

This role will require a rotational shift, ensuring weekend hours are covered, and requires in person work in Chicago.
