About the Opportunity
A well-established, financially strong insurance organization is seeking an experienced Construction Underwriter to join its specialty underwriting team. This role is focused on evaluating and underwriting complex construction-related risks while partnering closely with brokers and internal stakeholders.
Key Responsibilities
- Underwrite and analyze construction-related risks including general contractors, subcontractors, developers, and construction projects
- Evaluate submissions, determine pricing, coverage structures, terms, and conditions in accordance with underwriting authority
- Manage a profitable book of business while balancing growth and risk discipline
- Build and maintain strong relationships with retail and wholesale brokers
- Collaborate with claims, loss control, and actuarial teams as needed
- Monitor market trends and adjust underwriting strategy accordingly
- Ensure compliance with internal underwriting guidelines and regulatory requirements
Qualifications
- 3-7+ years of commercial underwriting experience, with a strong focus on construction risks
- Solid knowledge of construction-related coverages (GL, WC, excess/umbrella, professional, or builder's risk preferred)
- Strong analytical, negotiation, and decision-making skills
- Ability to manage multiple submissions and priorities in a fast-paced environment
- Excellent communication and relationship-building skills
- Bachelor's degree required; CPCU or progress toward professional designations is a plus
