About the Opportunity

A leading Property & Casualty insurance carrier is seeking an experienced Commercial Lines Underwriter to join its growing team. This is a fully remote opportunity for an underwriting professional with strong middle market experience and a proven ability to evaluate, price, and manage complex commercial risks.

The ideal candidate will have at least four years of underwriting experience and a background underwriting middle market accounts across multiple commercial lines, including Property, Auto, Workers' Compensation, General Liability, and Umbrella.

Key Responsibilities

  • Underwrite and manage a portfolio of middle market commercial accounts across multiple industries.
  • Evaluate new business submissions and renewal opportunities to determine acceptability, coverage structure, pricing, and terms.
  • Analyze financial statements, loss histories, exposure data, and risk characteristics to make sound underwriting decisions.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with agency partners and brokers to drive profitable growth.
  • Negotiate pricing, terms, and conditions while adhering to company underwriting guidelines.
  • Monitor portfolio profitability and identify opportunities for growth and risk improvement.
  • Collaborate with claims, risk control, product, and actuarial teams to support underwriting strategy.
  • Maintain accurate underwriting documentation and file management practices.
  • Stay informed on market trends, industry developments, and competitive conditions.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree preferred.
  • Minimum of 4 years of Commercial Lines Underwriting experience.
  • Strong middle market underwriting experience required.
  • Experience underwriting the following coverages:
    • Commercial Property
    • Commercial Auto
    • Workers' Compensation
    • General Liability
    • Umbrella/Excess Liability
  • Demonstrated ability to analyze and price complex commercial risks.
  • Strong communication and relationship management skills.
  • Experience managing broker and agency relationships.
  • Ability to work independently in a fully remote environment.
  • Strong analytical, negotiation, and decision-making skills.

Preferred Experience

  • Carrier-side underwriting experience.
  • Experience handling accounts with premiums ranging from $25,000 to $500,000+.
  • Familiarity with manufacturing, wholesale, distribution, construction, real estate, or service-related risks.
  • CPCU, AU, ARM, or other industry designations are a plus.
