China Macro Researcher

A global asset manager is seeking a China Macro Researcher for its research team, based in Shanghai. This is a rare, high-impact seat for a researcher who can develop a structured, cause-and-effect view of China's economic and political policy system, a coherent understanding of how the system works and how policy decisions are actually made.

You will sit at the intersection of macroeconomics, policy and markets, translating deep policy insight into a forward-looking framework that informs the firm's investment thinking. The environment is entrepreneurial, fast-paced and idea-meritocratic, where the quality of your framework and reasoning matters more than years on the clock.

What You'll Do

- Develop a structured view and forecast of China's economic and political policy system - an integrated framework spanning growth, inflation, monetary, fiscal and industrial policy.
- Build deep insight into policymaker decision-making and reaction functions understanding how the Chinese government and the People's Bank of China (PBoC) set policy frameworks and make decisions.
- Maintain meaningful regional and policymaker engagement, keeping a live pulse on officials, regulators and top research institutions.

What We're Looking For

- 10+ years analysing China's macro economy in asset management, central banking, policy institutions, or investment research. (Years of experience are not the sole measure - we welcome candidates who can demonstrate a mature, well-developed framework.)
- Deep understanding of China's credit system, financial structure, and political economy.
- Clear thinking grounded in cause-and-effect logic and probabilistic reasoning.
- Outstanding written and verbal communication skills in both Mandarin and English.
- Native or fluent Mandarin.
- Thrives in an entrepreneurial, fast-paced environment with an open, idea-meritocratic culture; high integrity and humble.
- AMAC fund practising qualification, or the demonstrated ability to obtain it.
