Location: Chicago, IL

Compensation: 110-150k base

A leading financial services firm is seeking an experienced professional to join its Operational Risk Management team as an Assistant Vice President, focused on Third-Party Risk. This role is ideal for someone passionate about risk mitigation, vendor oversight, and business continuity planning. The successful candidate will help evolve and expand the firm's risk programs, drive strategic initiatives, and foster a strong risk culture across the organization.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and enhance the Vendor Risk Management (VRM) and Business Continuity Management (BCM) programs.
  • Guide implementation of the VRM framework and provide strategic direction to business units.
  • Manage the central vendor repository and automate onboarding/offboarding processes.
  • Facilitate oversight of vendor risk, ensuring visibility of threats and mitigation strategies.
  • Conduct VRM training to promote awareness and effective application across the firm.
  • Monitor industry developments and regulatory changes to ensure compliance.
  • Liaise with third-party vendors and maintain strong professional relationships.
  • Build and maintain reporting dashboards for senior management and oversight committees.
  • Identify, track, and analyze operational risks; implement control improvements.
  • Represent ORM in internal meetings, committees, and working groups.
  • Foster relationships with key stakeholders to promote a strong risk culture.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant field.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in financial services risk management, vendor risk, or MIS.
  • Strong knowledge of third-party risk management practices.
  • Preferred certifications:
    • Certified Third Party Risk Management Professional (C3PRMP)
    • Financial Risk Manager (FRM)
    • Certified Internal Auditor (CIA)
    • Project Management Professional (PMP)
  • Familiarity with internal controls, regulatory requirements, and operational risk mitigation.
  • Proficiency in Excel (including formulas) and GRC tools (e.g., MetricStream).
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and project management skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
  • Demonstrated leadership, adaptability, and critical thinking.
