Responsibilities
- Serve as a technical resource on complex government accounting matters, providing guidance on FAR, CAS, GAAP, and related regulatory requirements.
- Oversee and enhance the financial systems, controls, and processes supporting government contract accounting activities.
- Review government-related financial information to ensure reporting is accurate, consistent, and appropriately supported.
- Lead government accounting audits and compliance reviews, coordinating documentation and addressing technical questions or findings.
- Identify opportunities to strengthen accounting processes, controls, reporting practices, and system functionality.
- Manage cross-functional initiatives involving government accounting, financial reporting, compliance, and system improvements.
- Partner with accounting, finance, operations, contracts, and other internal stakeholders to resolve complex government accounting matters.
- Provide technical direction and mentorship to accounting team members while promoting consistent practices across the organization.
- Research evolving accounting and regulatory requirements and help translate changes into appropriate internal processes and procedures.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting strongly preferred, with Finance or a related discipline also considered.
- Strong background in government contract accounting, with demonstrated knowledge of FAR and CAS requirements.
- Solid understanding of GAAP and its application within a complex accounting environment.
- Experience advising on technical accounting or compliance matters rather than solely performing transactional accounting activities.
- Background working with financial systems, accounting processes, controls, and reporting supporting government contracts.
- Experience leading or playing a significant role in government audits, regulatory reviews, or other compliance activities.
- Ability to interpret complex accounting and regulatory guidance and translate it into practical business processes.
- Proven experience managing projects or initiatives involving accounting systems, reporting, compliance, or process improvements.
- Strong analytical skills with the ability to identify discrepancies, evaluate risks, and develop solutions.
- Proficiency with Excel, financial/ERP systems, and analytical tools.
- Strong communication skills with the ability to explain technical accounting concepts to both financial and non-financial stakeholders.
- Demonstrated leadership and mentoring capabilities, including the ability to influence teams and work effectively across functions.
- Must satisfy applicable ITAR/EAR eligibility requirements associated with access to regulated information.
