Quantitative Data Engineer

Overview
A leading quantitative trading firm is looking to add several Quantitative Data Engineers to its growing European engineering team.
Working directly with quantitative researchers and traders, you'll help design and build the datasets, tooling and systems that underpin research and trading activity. The position sits at the intersection of software engineering, data engineering and quantitative research, offering significant exposure to data-driven investment strategies and front-office stakeholders.
This is an excellent opportunity for highly technical Python engineers who enjoy solving complex data problems, working closely with researchers, and building systems that directly influence business outcomes.
The Role
You will partner with quantitative researchers to accelerate research initiatives through a combination of software engineering, data engineering and analytical problem-solving.
Responsibilities include:
- Developing and deploying Python-based applications and research tooling
- Building and enhancing datasets used across research and trading teams
- Designing model features and data-driven analytical workflows
- Optimising algorithms and improving the performance of existing code
- Working with large and complex datasets to generate actionable insights
- Collaborating directly with researchers and traders on high-impact projects
- Supporting the continued evolution of the firm's quantitative data platform
Requirements
We're interested in candidates who can demonstrate:
- Strong Python development experience (typically 3+ years)
- Hands-on experience with data processing libraries such as Pandas, Polars, NumPy or PySpark
- Experience working with large-scale datasets and data-intensive applications
- Strong problem-solving and algorithmic thinking skills
- Linux experience within production or research environments
- A STEM degree (Computer Science, Mathematics, Physics, Engineering, Statistics or similar)
- Excellent communication skills and an ability to work closely with technical stakeholders
- An interest in quantitative finance, systematic trading or data-driven decision making
