Tax Manager
Selby Jennings is partnered with a successful bitcoin focused FinTech that is looking to bring on a Tax Manager to join their rapidly growing team. The Tax Manager will play a critical role in overseeing the firm's tax compliance, reporting, and planning, and audit efforts across federal, state, and local jurisdictions. This individual will also be play a key role in strategic decision making ensuring the tax function achieves their annual & ongoing goals.
Responsibilities:
- Take ownership of all U.S. tax obligations, including income, franchise, payroll, and sales/use taxes.
- Prepare and review quarterly and annual tax provisions, addressing book-to-tax differences and disclosure requirements.
- Work closely with external tax partners to manage consolidated federal and state returns, separate filings, estimates, and extensions.
- Manage annual 1099 reporting across all applicable categories.
- Direct all aspects of sales and use tax compliance and planning.
- Ensure timely filing and payment of returns across relevant jurisdictions.
- Maintain exemption certificates and verify accurate application.
- Stay ahead of regulatory changes and implement compliant strategies.
- Review and reconcile monthly filings, payments, and related journal entries.
- Act as the primary liaison for federal, state, and local audits.
- Coordinate documentation, respond to auditor requests, and negotiate resolutions when necessary.
- Identify audit risks and implement process improvements to mitigate exposure.
- Monitor new and pending tax legislation to assess potential impacts.
- Research complex tax matters, prepare technical memos, and present findings to leadership.
- Develop tax-efficient strategies, strengthen internal controls, and drive process improvements.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree or higher in Tax, Accounting, or related field.
- 5-7 years of relevant tax experience in corporate tax and/or public accounting.
- Prior experience in a high-growth SaaS, FinTech, Cryptocurrency or related technology environment strongly preferred.
- Strong technical knowledge of ASC 740 and U.S. GAAP accounting principles.
- You have a deep understanding of U.S. sales and use tax laws, nexus rules, and taxability.
- You are skilled at managing tax provisions, compliance cycles, and audit defense.
- You have strong financial acumen with excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
- You demonstrate proven ability to balance multiple priorities in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.
- You are proficient with Microsoft Excel, Google Suite, and accounting systems.
- You are a strategic thinker with demonstrated ability to drive process improvements and manage projects.
- CPA qualification is highly desired.
- Master's degree in Accountancy or Taxation is strongly preferred.
- Prior experience with NetSuite is preferred
- Basic knowledge of Bitcoin, digital assets, or blockchain is preferred
